The Golden State Warriors have lost seven of their last eight games and have fallen to the No. 10 spot in the Western Conference.
To make matters worse, an unnamed Warriors player reportedly is not happy that forward Kelly Oubre Jr. wouldn’t be open to a bench role next season.
Oubre, 25, is an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season, but he would likely move to the bench if he stayed in Golden State once Klay Thompson returns to the lineup.
“Now I’m not gonna name the player, but I’ve heard the Warriors players didn’t take too lightly to those comments,” former Warriors center Andrew Bogut said on his latest “Rogue Bogues” podcast. “They basically made it pretty known that Andre Iguodala, a Finals MVP, was OK with coming off the bench, but we have Kelly motherf—— Oubre who won’t.
“And that was not directed behind his back. That was to his face by an unnamed player in that locker room who was not too happy with those comments.”
Obviously, Oubre could seek out a starting role elsewhere in free agency, but it certainly doesn’t help the Warriors’ team chemistry at this point in the season.
On the year, Oubre is averaging 15.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game while shooting 43.6 percent from the field and 30.5 percent from 3-point range.
