As the Golden State Warriors get ready for their voluntary minicamp, they will be without superstar guard Stephen Curry and forward Draymond Green.
However, shooting guard Klay Thompson will participate as he is working his way back from a torn ACL that he suffered during the 2019 NBA Finals.
“The two-week camp will begin Monday, with players reporting to a team-designated hotel in San Francisco,” the The Mercury News’ Wes Goldberg wrote. “There, they will undergo coronavirus testing and quarantine for 48 hours before beginning group workouts at Chase Center on Wednesday. Players will stay at the hotel for the full two weeks, leaving only by private vans to work out at the arena.
“Most Warriors players — including Klay Thompson, Kevon Looney, Andrew Wiggins and Eric Paschall — are expected to participate. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr anticipates a ‘pick-up ball’-type atmosphere and doesn’t plan to teach specifics of the playbook — something he will save for training camp. In addition to daily workouts, which will include scrimmages, Kerr will invite guest speakers to talk to the team through RingCentral, a video conferencing software.”
Thompson returning is a welcome sign for a Warriors team that struggled mightily last season. Curry appeared in five games due to a broken hand, and Golden State had just a 15-50 record this season.
However, they should be fully healthy for the 2020-21 campaign and have added forward Andrew Wiggins to the fold. Not only that, but the Warriors have the No. 2 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.
They should be back in the playoff picture next season.
