Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry believes that his team’s with Kevin Durant, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson would have beaten the 1996 Chicago Bulls in six games in a seven-game series.
“Absolutely,” Curry said when answering a question from a fan in an interview for GQ Sports. “Obviously, we’ll never know, but you put us on paper with them, I like our chances. I’d say Dubs in six, too.”
The Bulls are widely considered to be one of the greatest teams ever, as they won six titles with Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. The team won three consecutive NBA titles on two separate occasions, but Curry thinks his Warriors team would have been up to the task.
There is no denying the greatness of the Warriors with Durant, Thompson, Green and Curry either, as they won two titles in their three years together.
Had Durant and Thompson not gotten hurt in the 2019 NBA Finals, there is a chance the Warriors would have been able to pull out a three-peat of their own.
Curry’s confidence in answering the question shows just how dominant he believes the Durant-era Warriors were, but he makes a good point when saying, “We’ll never know.”
The game of basketball has changed drastically since Jordan and the Bulls won their six titles, and it’s hard to compare the two teams to each other because of that.
The Warriors may have looked a lot different in Jordan’s era where the 3-point shot wasn’t so common, and the same goes for the Bulls in Curry’s era.
Both of these teams were two of the greatest to ever touch an NBA court, and it’s hard to fault Curry for siding with his own squad in a hypothetical matchup.
