Golden State Warriors star guard Stephen Curry complimented Kamala Harris — the Democratic nominee for president of the United States — during the Warriors’ media day on Monday.

“Obviously, supporting her is an honor,” Curry said of Harris. “A sophisticated leader that I expect and have confidence that she can lead our country and provide obviously hope, inspiration, unity. Obviously, there’s a lot of tough conversations that need to be addressed in our country and a lot of progress that needs to be made.”
Harris appeared on the All The Smoke podcast with former Warriors in Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson recently and said that she couldn’t fall asleep when she got the news that Joe Biden was stepping out of the race, so she decided to cook.
“From the time that the president called me and told me he wasn’t running, I mean, everything was in speedy, speedy motion,” Harris said. “And I was not sleeping so well. That one morning, I just – I mean I had, I don’t know, a few hours sleep, and I like to sleep. I just got up. I just went out and got a pork roast and started marinating it. And my family happened to be in town so they were very happy about the whole situation. But I just got up and started – everybody’s asleep – I just got up and started cooking.”
This year’s elections will take place on Nov. 5, and a major political event is on the horizon. JD Vance will face off against Tim Walz in a vice presidential debate on Tuesday night.
Curry has expressed in the past that he is supporting Harris for president in part due to her stance on abortions. She is pro-abortion and supports a woman’s right to choose.
Abortion is seemingly an issue that hits close to home for Curry, as his mother alleged that she almost had an abortion back when she was pregnant with the four-time NBA champion.
“Here’s this decision I made in this point, and look at the blessing that he has become,” she said of choosing to ultimately not have an abortion. “I just thank God for that, and I say to God that it was meant to be and to not carry judgement. You don’t have to carry a lot of judgement forever. Give ourselves some grace in making the decision with what we had to make the decision with when we made it.”
But Curry has more pressing things to think about than an upcoming election. The start of the 2024-25 regular season is coming up in the near future, considering Golden State will kick off its 82-game slate against the Portland Trail Blazers on Oct. 23.
The 36-year-old likely wants to lead the Warriors to more success than the team enjoyed a season ago. Golden State didn’t even make the 2024 NBA Playoffs after the team finished the regular season with a record of 46-36. Much of the team’s 2023-24 campaign was marred by antics from Draymond Green as well as a down year from Klay Thompson.
But the Warriors’ current roster also looks quite different compared to last season’s. Chris Paul along with Thompson are no longer members of the team, and Golden State added Buddy Hield, De’Anthony Melton and Kyle Anderson to the squad.
