The Houston Rockets dealt superstar James Harden to the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday.
The Rockets reportedly had been looking at offers from the Nets and Philadelphia 76ers, but it appears that Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta didn’t want to trade Harden to Philly.
Former Rockets general manager Daryl Morey is now in the Sixers front office, and Fertitta reportedly didn’t want to deal Harden to him.
“After that, I was told that Tilman Fertitta — the Houston Rockets owner — he was just adamant that they not make a deal with Philly, obviously with Daryl Morey being the GM over there now,” Yahoo! Sports’ Chris Haynes said.
The Rockets ended up dealing Harden to Brooklyn and received a boatload of draft capital in return.
They also acquired guard Victor Oladipo from the Indiana Pacers. Oladipo will be a free agent after this season, but Houston could try to lock him up to a long-term deal.
The Rockets are currently 3-6 this season. They have a solid core of John Wall, Oladipo and Christian Wood, but it seems unlikely that they will compete for a title this season.
