Indiana Pacers swingman Caris LeVert underwent successful surgery to remove a mass on his kidney, the team announced.
“Caris LeVert underwent successful surgery on Monday to treat renal cell carcinoma of his left kidney,” the team’s statement announced. “The surgery was performed by Dr. Jason Sprunger at Community North Hospital in Indianapolis, Ind. No further treatment is needed. Caris is expected to make a full recovery and will be out indefinitely. Further updates will be provided as needed.”
The Pacers acquired LeVert in the four-team deal that sent James Harden to the Brooklyn Nets.
The mass was discovered in LeVert’s kidney after he underwent a physical to complete the deal.
LeVert said that the trade may have saved his life, and while he is out indefinitely, he is expected to make a full recovery.
This season, LeVert is averaging 18.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 6.0 assists in 12 games.
Once he is healthy, LeVert will likely be a big part of Indiana’s future plans.
