Vice President Kamala Harris – the Democratic nominee for president for the upcoming election – spoke to former NBA players Stephen Jackson and Matt Barnes and shared what she did after Joe Biden decided he was not going to run for another term.
Harris revealed that things were moving fast after she was informed, and she decided to cook when she was unable to sleep.
“From the time that the president called me and told me he wasn’t running, I mean, everything was in speedy, speedy motion,” Harris said. “And I was not sleeping so well. That one morning, I just – I mean I had, I don’t know, a few hours sleep, and I like to sleep. I just got up. I just went out and got a pork roast and started marinating it. And my family happened to be in town so they were very happy about the whole situation. But I just got up and started – everybody’s asleep – I just got up and started cooking.”
It seems like cooking was a way for Harris to put her mind at ease as she prepared to take on the challenge of running for president.
Barnes agreed with Harris’ decision saying, “Get in your happy place,” while the vice president shared her story. It’s interesting to see that Harris may have a similar way to calm herself down – or simply enjoy life – as many other people in the United States.
Harris has already debated Donald Trump once ahead of the November election, and according to FiveThirtyEight, she has a slight lead in the national polls.
Earlier this month, Los Angeles legend Magic Johnson endorsed Harris for the upcoming election this November. Johnson called her plan for the United States “wonderful,” and he also seemed excited about how she is fighting for women and the right to choose.
Johnson’s endorsement was certainly an important one, as the Hall of Famer is one of the most influential athletes in the world — even though his playing career is over.
Harris is the first woman, the first Black American and the first South Asian American to be elected as the vice president. Now, she is looking to become the first woman in the United States to ever become president.
During her career, Harris has also served as the district attorney of San Francisco and attorney general of California, as well as a United States senator.
