Los Angeles Lakers youngster Bronny James played his first G League road game of the season with the South Bay Lakers on Dec. 12, and although the team picked up a loss, James starred from a scoring standpoint.

Not long after he set a career-high for points in a single G League contest with 16 against the San Diego Clippers on Dec. 7, he shattered that mark against the Valley Suns.

Former NBA Sixth Man of the Year Eddie Johnson applauded James for his outing on X and called out his haters.

James went off for an unbelievable 30 points in the outing, the most of any player on his team by a significant margin. Plus, what might have been even more encouraging than James’ point total was the efficiency with which he scored the ball.

James converted well over half of his shots from the field, as he shot 13-of-23. He also knocked down three of his nine looks from 3-point range.

The 20-year-old’s big performance on Dec. 12 no longer marks his most recent G League game, however. The next day, South Bay played the same team again, and James didn’t have as productive of a game.

In another loss for South Bay, he finished with 16 points, two rebounds, two assists and one steal. At first glance, it might seem as if James followed up his career performance with another impressive scoring showing, but he was once again plagued by scoring inefficiency.

He shot just 6-of-20 from the field. James took more shots than any other player for South Bay, yet he didn’t finish tops on the team in scoring. Fellow guard Devonte’ Graham — who formerly played for the New Orleans Pelicans, San Antonio Spurs and Charlotte Hornets — led the team with 19 points and also dished out six assists.

James will look to bounce back soon. He has been quite busy playing for South Bay of late, but he also appeared in a game for Los Angeles not long ago. He briefly saw the floor in a victory over the Portland Trail Blazers back on Dec. 8. Interestingly, James’ father LeBron — one of the greatest players the NBA has ever seen — did not suit up in that game.
