Report: Pelicans have changed their culinary practices for Zion Williamson

New Orleans Pelicans star Zion Williamson has not yet appeared in a game this season as he recovers from a broken foot.

His absence has been felt, as the Pelicans have one of the worst records in the NBA so far at 2-14. The team is in danger of digging itself a hole that it won’t be able to get out of.

Williamson’s foot and the team’s slow start aren’t the only things the Pelicans are worried about, though. The organization also has some concerns about Williamson’s weight.

According to a report, the Pelicans have “changed some of their culinary practices” to try to support the 21-year-old.

“The Pelicans have poured resources, time and energy to protect Williamson’s health,” wrote Brian Windhorst and Andrew Lopez of ESPN. “They have changed members of the staff and even changed some of their culinary practices in an attempt to support him.”

When Williamson is healthy and at his best, he’s one of the NBA’s brightest young stars.

Over 85 games at the professional level, the former No. 1 overall pick has averages of 25.7 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. He also has a very impressive shooting clip of 60.4 percent.

That’s the version of Williamson the Pelicans will hope to see upon his return.

If New Orleans wants to crack the playoffs this season or even find a way to make the play-in, the team is likely going to need Williamson to carry a big load. Time will tell if the youngster is up for the task.
