Report: Pelicans targeting Nets, Celtics and 76ers in potential J.J. Redick trade

A new report indicates that the New Orleans Pelicans are focusing  on specific potential trade destinations for guard J.J. Redick.

The most likely destinations appear to be the Brooklyn Nets, Boston Celtics or Philadelphia 76ers.

The Athletic reported on the possible move.

“As Feb. 2 looms as the NBA’s deadline for teams to aggregate acquired players in a trade later, the New Orleans Pelicans have focused on the Philadelphia 76ers, Brooklyn Nets and Boston Celtics as potential trade destinations for J.J. Redick, sources tell The Athletic’s Shams Charania,” the report read.

While no deal is currently in the works, Redick apparently would like to play for a team in the East, primarily because his family lives in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Additionally, The Athletic noted that all three teams are in contention for an NBA title and have a mutual interest in acquiring a player who may head elsewhere after this season.

“In the 76ers, Nets and Celtics, the Pelicans are targeting a championship contender for a trade home,” the article stated. “All three teams have expressed interest, sources said. Redick is on a $13.1 million contract that expires at the end of the season.”

Recently, the Pelicans have popped up in trade speculation as they continue to rebuild the team around players like Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram.

While it’s debatable how much they can get for Redick, obtaining any future asset would be better than watching him walk after the season.
