New York Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau reportedly is “open” to reuniting with Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns.
Thibodeau coached Towns in Minnesota, but things didn’t end well with the Timberwolves.
Now, Thibodeau has the Knicks at 17-17 this season, and he thinks that Towns would help the Knicks win, according to Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News
“I don’t know if Minnesota would ever make Karl-Anthony Towns available,” Bondy said. “But as bad as things ended for Thibodeau in Minnesota, I’ve heard that he’d be open to Karl-Anthony Towns again because Thibodeau just wants to win and he thinks Karl-Anthony Towns will help him to that end. And so I know that Karl-Anthony Towns is somebody that’s actually been reported before that the Knicks are monitoring as well.”
The Timberwolves currently have the worst record in the NBA at 7-27.
Despite bringing in D’Angelo Russell last season, the Wolves have not been able to get out of the Western Conference’s basement.
Towns has played in just 14 games this season due to a wrist injury and a battle with COVID-19.
Still, he is averaging 22.5 points, 10.7 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game.
If the Timberwolves make Towns available, it is quite possible the Knicks could be in the mix for the two-time All-Star.
