New Philadelphia 76ers big man Dwight Howard indicated that he’s prepared to serve as a mentor to Sixers center Joel Embiid in order to help him reach his full potential.
During Howard’s 16 years in the league, he’s had plenty of highs and lows and will no doubt impart some of the wisdom he’s gained over that time to Embiid.
In truth, Embiid is currently producing at a high level on the court for the 76ers, having averaged a double-double per game in each of the past three seasons.
Still, the high expectations of a talented Sixers team haven’t panned out during the postseason, which led to former head coach Brett Brown being replaced by Doc Rivers.
Embiid has also been the subject of trade talks, though any such potential deal would have to presumably overwhelm the 76ers to get them to pull the trigger.
Howard’s long NBA career began with him as a budding superstar and now has him in the role of an elder statesman. The Sixers and Embiid hope that Howard can fulfill the goal that he’s set.
