Wiz Khalifa drops a ‘hell yeah’ when asked if Kevin Durant smokes: ‘K.D.’s with the weed, bro’

Rapper Wiz Khalifa was a recent guest on NFL legend Shannon Sharpe’s podcast, and he informed Sharpe that Phoenix Suns star forward Kevin Durant smokes marijuana.

“Hell yeah,” the rapper said in response to being asked if Durant smokes. “K.D.’s with the weed, bro.”

Durant has said before that “everyone” does marijuana in the NBA and that it’s “like wine at this point.” The NBA and NBAPA signed a collective bargaining agreement in the year 2023 that removed marijuana as a banned substance in the league, and Durant helped lobby to end the ban on the drug. Even prior to the change, the league had loosened its approach to marijuana.

The 36-year-old opened up to TV personality David Letterman about his marijuana use in a Netflix interview a couple years back. Durant admitted that he was under the influence of marijuana during the interview.

In the current NBA season, Durant made his return to the court for the Suns on Dec. 13 against the Utah Jazz after he missed the team’s previous three games with a left ankle sprain. The level at which he performed versus Utah suggests that he didn’t have to shake off a whole lot of rust despite his absence.

In a game the Suns won by a final score of 134-126, he finished with the second-most points of any Sun with 30 on 8-of-17 shooting from the field and 2-of-5 shooting from 3-point range. Fellow star Devin Booker led all scorers on both sides with 34 points, and he also connected on six of his attempts from deep.

On top of his production from a scoring standpoint, Durant also played at a high level as a playmaker. He dished out a whopping eight assists and turned the ball over just once.

Durant’s return came at an opportune time for the Suns, as the team is looking to get back on track this season.

Phoenix owns a record of just 4-9 over its last 13 games and sits as the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference. It’s worth noting that the Suns began the 2024-25 regular season by winning eight of their first nine contests but now have a record just barely above the .500 mark at 13-11.
