Iman Shumpert hints at potential Kevin Durant destination

At Game 5 of the 2025 NBA Finals between the Indiana Pacers and Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday, ESPN discussed where Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant might land.

At one point, former NBA player Iman Shumpert mentioned the San Antonio Spurs as a good landing spot for Durant, which promoted a body-language reaction from NBA insider Shams Charania.

It led to some speculation on social media about what the reaction might’ve meant.

Shortly after the clip surfaced, The Athletic reported that Durant has a specific desire to land with the Spurs.

Later, Shumpert, who made the comments that sparked the subtle reaction from Charania, took to social media and offered a thought-provoking message.

However, it’s worth noting that on Tuesday, Charania appeared to downplay the situation that unfolded on TV.

Durant’s next stop has been a frequent topic of conversation around the NBA world lately, as the veteran’s time with the Suns is likely all but over.

Of the teams involved in the Durant sweepstakes, none have made an offer that the Suns have liked enough to accept just yet, and it’s been said that the race has been changing by the minute.

Durant is getting up there in age, but he’s still capable of performing at a high level. This season, he was remarkably efficient, and he averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists per contest.

He is sure to land somewhere, but it’s worth noting that even with some of the recent San Antonio buzz, Durant may be a long shot to end up with the Spurs.

Durant is a two-time NBA champion but could certainly add to his legacy by winning a ring with a team other than the Golden State Warriors, who he helped to titles in 2017 and 2018.

Although Durant will turn 37 in September, there are currently examples of players in the NBA who have played at an effective level well beyond that age, so there is still time for Durant to make a meaningful impact as his basketball career continues.

Sooner or later, there will be some clarity about where his next stop will be.
