Dwyane Wade may be concerned with superstar Donovan Mitchell’s long-term commitment to the Utah Jazz.
“I think Dwyane Wade is seriously concerned about Donovan Mitchell’s desire to stay [in Utah] long-term,” said Brian Windhorst on a recent episode of his podcast.
Mitchell is under contract for several more seasons on a max deal, but the NBA is in an era where players are capable of forcing their way out of organizations at will. Losing the young star would be a massive setback for the Jazz.
Mitchell, 24, is coming off of a 2020-21 season in which he led Utah to the top seed in the Western Conference. Throughout the regular season, he averaged 26.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and 5.2 assists while hitting 43.8 percent of his shots from the field and a career-best 38.6 percent of his shots from deep.
Mitchell is a two-time All-Star who arguably hasn’t even reached his ceiling yet. If he were to force his way out of Utah in a trade, the return would be monumental, but it’s unlikely that the team would be able to completely fill his void.
Moreover, Mitchell is the unquestioned face of the franchise in Utah.
