Rams head coach Sean McVay would ‘never rule out’ possibility of reuniting with Jalen Ramsey

Folks should prepare for rumors connecting star Miami Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey to his former team — the Los Angeles Rams — to heat up in light of some recent comments that Rams head coach Sean McVay made.

McVay said that he would “never rule out” the possibility of a reunion with the cornerback, who spent three-plus seasons in Los Angeles before his time with the Dolphins. Ramsey earned a pair of All-Pro selections during his Rams stint.

“He’s a great player,” McVay said of Ramsey. “We know him very well … we know him intimately. You would certainly never rule out the possibility of that. …

“There’s a lot of layers that would need to be worked out with a player of his magnitude, and some of the different things that accompany that. But you would never eliminate the possibility of adding a total stud.”

Ramsey seems to have one foot out of Miami at this juncture, as Dolphins general manager Chris Grier has confirmed publicly that the team is looking to move the 30-year-old. In what could go down as his last season as a Dolphin, Ramsey totaled two interceptions, 60 combined tackles, 21 assisted tackles, 39 solo tackles, six tackles for loss and four quarterback hits in the 2024 campaign.

He’s been a member of the Dolphins for each of the last two seasons of his NFL career, and Miami acquired him following the 2022 season in exchange for tight end Hunter Long as well as a third-round pick.

It’s understandable that McVay isn’t ruling out acquiring Ramsey considering the team success that Los Angeles enjoyed during his time with the team. Ramsey was an invaluable part of the Rams’ defensive unit when the team won a Super Bowl in the 2021 season.

He started every one of the four playoff games that Los Angeles participated in during its Super Bowl run and racked up 11 solo tackles and a pair of assisted tackles.

Ramsey won the NFL’s ultimate prize as a Ram, but he hasn’t experienced nearly as much playoff success since joining the Dolphins. Miami hasn’t won a playoff game with him in the fold and even missed the playoffs in the 2024 season after it ended up with a record of just 8-9 during the regular season.

It would be a classy move on the part of the Dolphins’ organization to trade Ramsey to a team he’s formerly played for and seemingly will have a real chance at making a deep playoff run with. The Rams won the NFC West division in the 2024 campaign with a 10-7 record.
