On Wednesday night, NBA fans were surprised to learn that the Washington Wizards had traded guard John Wall and a 2023 first-round pick to the Houston Rockets for Russell Westbrook.
Though Wall’s name had been mentioned in trade rumors over the last few months, the former All-Star was reportedly “shocked” to actually get the news that he had been dealt.
“John Wall has been traded,” said NBC Sports’ Chris Miller. “John, from my sourcing, is shocked, and he should be because this is the first time that his name has ever been put into trade talks.”
The writing had been on the wall for quite some time that Westbrook’s and Wall’s days were numbered with their respective squads.
Now, Wall will head to Houston and hope to rekindle the level of play that he enjoyed prior to several seasons marred by injury.
He last played in the 2018-19 season when he suited up for 32 games. In those games, he averaged 20.7 points, 8.7 assists and 3.6 rebounds per game.
