The Carolina Panthers got star running back Christian McCaffrey back on the field in Sunday’s loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, but it may have been a short-lived return.

McCaffrey reportedly suffered a shoulder injury in the Panthers’ loss, and his status is “very much in doubt” for this coming Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport explained that while the Panthers list McCaffrey as day-to-day, he showed that he was in pain late in Sunday’s loss.

That has the star’s status uncertain for a divisional matchup and crucial game for Carolina’s playoff hopes.

McCaffrey has already missed six games this season with a high-ankle sprain that he suffered in Week 2 against Tampa Bay.

He returned against the Chiefs and was fantastic, rushing for 69 yards and a touchdown. He also added 10 catches for 82 additional yards and another score.

Since coming into the league, McCaffrey has been one of, if not the best, all-around threat at the running back position.

If he cannot suit up against Tampa Bay, backup Mike Davis will reclaim the starting role he held for the six weeks McCaffrey was already sidelined.
