NFL exec says DeMarvion Overshown is ‘ridiculous’: ‘He’s absolutely amazing’

Based on opinions of league executives, coaches and scouts at the NFL level, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler compiled a ranking of the top 10 off-ball linebackers in all of football for 2025.

Dallas Cowboys youngster DeMarvion Overshown cracked the list. He came in at the No. 8 spot among his positional counterparts, and one anonymous personnel executive gushed over Overshown’s impact on the field. He said Overshown is “ridiculous” and that he’s “absolutely amazing.”

“He’s absolutely amazing,” the executive said. “Ridiculous.”

Overshown, a former third-round pick, got his first taste of NFL football with the Cowboys in the 2024 season and totaled 90 combined tackles, 56 solo tackles and 34 assisted tackles as a rookie. He also added five sacks, five quarterback hits, eight tackles for loss, four passes defended and multiple turnovers generated.

That would be a highly impressive body of work for most defensive players in the league, but what makes Overshown’s statistical output especially impressive is that he didn’t play a full season. He played in just 13 games with the Cowboys a season ago.

Unfortunately, there are injury concerns with Overshown, which might’ve kept him from finishing higher on the list. His 2024 season was cut short after he went down with a torn ACL, MCL and PCL in December. Overshown also missed the entirety of the 2023 season — which would have been his rookie season — with a torn ACL.

“Multiple voters have serious concerns about whether Overshown can maintain a consistent NFL career because of the damage already done,” Fowler wrote.

He has yet to definitively prove that his body can handle the physical toll of being an off-ball linebacker at the NFL level, and he might not even have the opportunity to prove that in the coming 2025 season, at least over a big sample size.

He is on track to miss part of the coming campaign with his knee injury, though the Cowboys are hoping that he will suit up at some point in the season, per Fowler.

All in all, there are major injury concerns with Overshown, but if he can stave off the injury bug in the coming seasons, the sky seems to be the limit for him.

Cowboys fans should be excited to watch him develop in the coming years, and he might be in the conversation for the best player at his position in the league before long.
