Just a few months ago, it seemed as though star quarterback Deshaun Watson would force his way off of the Houston Texans.
Now, it looks as though the Texans may be the party to move on from the other. Of course, Watson has been wrapped up in disturbing sexual assault allegations for much of the offseason.
On Sunday, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported on “SportsCenter” that recent moves by the Texans indicate that they may be ready to pull the plug.
“Teams I’ve talked to around the league are taking notice that the Houston Texans seem to be slowly moving on from Deshaun Watson because they have their bridge quarterback in Tyrod Taylor and they have their developmental draft pick in Davis Mills, a quarterback I’m told they are very high on with his instincts, his smarts and his big arm,” he said. “And so, a couple of months ago, the Texans were turning down everybody who was calling them about Deshaun Watson. Carolina was willing to give them the world; they said no. They’ve been far less committal recently. They don’t know when Watson’s even going to be cleared to play. The league will consider putting Watson on the Commissioner’s Exempt List later this summer if his case is still going on.”
Watson has witnessed an incredible fall from grace. Last season, he put in a stellar performance, throwing for 4,823 yards, 33 touchdowns and just seven interceptions.
Now, it looks as though the team he wanted to part ways with could potentially cut ties with him.
Given all the allegations, it is hard to imagine another NFL team giving him another shot despite his elite talent.
