The mother of Kansas City Chiefs star receiver Rashee Rice had her theft case dismissed, according to TMZ.
“Court documents we obtained show prosecutors in Tarrant County, Texas agreed to drop the misdemeanor case against Rice’s mother, Marsha Kearney … after she fulfilled several conditions,” TMZ wrote.
Kearney reportedly completed a theft intervention program, 24 hours of community service and paid $125 in restitution.
She was accused of the crime back in October after she was seen on a neighbor’s doorbell camera stealing some Chappell Roan records off their porch.
It’s good news for Rice and his family that the case has been dismissed, as it’s one less thing for the star receiver to worry about as the Chiefs are near the start of the playoffs. Unfortunately for Rice, he won’t be playing in any more games this season after he underwent surgery to have his LCL repaired.
Rice suffered the injury in Week 4 of the 2024 season, spoiling what was a terrific start to the campaign for the second-year receiver.
Through four games, Rice made 24 receptions on 29 targets for 288 yards and two touchdowns. He had a 12-catch, 110-yard game in Week 3 in a win over the Atlanta Falcons and finished with over 100 receiving yards in two games this season.
Rice was limited to just four snaps in Week 4 before he suffered the season-ending injury.
Despite losing Rice, the Chiefs have still positioned themselves well to make another deep playoff run in the 2024 season.
Kansas City is currently 13-1 and holds the No. 1 seed in the AFC. The team’s only loss in the 2024 season came to Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills, and Kansas City has won four games in a row since that defeat.
The Chiefs have matchups with the Houston Texans (Week 16), Pittsburgh Steelers (Week 17) and Denver Broncos (Week 18) still remaining on their schedule.
After winning the Super Bowl in each of the last two seasons, the Chiefs are looking for a three-peat this winter.
While Rice won’t be able to play for Kansas City, he surely will be supporting his teammates in their quest for another Lombardi Trophy.
