Kansas City Chiefs defensive back Tyrann Mathieu is thoroughly impressed with his new teammate Josh Gordon.
Mathieu was quick to compare Gordon to a legendary receiver, Calvin Johnson, after just one day of practice against him.
Gordon joined the Chiefs after being reinstated by the NFL. He had been serving a suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.
That’s some lofty praise for Gordon, who hasn’t played in the NFL since the 2019 season. However, when he’s on the field, Gordon is a threat to be reckoned with.
Gordon burst onto the scene back in the 2013 season while he was with the Cleveland Browns. That season, he made 87 catches for 1,646 yards and nine touchdowns in just 14 games.
He last played with the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks during the 2019 season. He appeared in 11 games and made 27 catches for 426 yards and one score.
Johnson is one of the greatest players and offensive weapons in NFL history, so Gordon must be doing something right in his return to the NFL to draw comparisons to such a great player.
The Chiefs are hoping Gordon can elevate the team’s offense after a 1-2 start to the 2021 season.
