With star quarterback Aaron Rodgers potentially on his way to the New York Jets this offseason, it sounds like star receiver Odell Beckham Jr. could also find himself wearing green in the 2023 campaign.
A new report indicates that both Beckham and the Jets would like to join forces. It sounds like “financials” may be the only thing currently in the way of an agreement between the two sides.
“Just because you see this wide receiver room continuing to shift does not mean that they are done work,” ESPN’s Jeff Darlington reported on “Get Up.” “We should very much consider Odell Beckham Jr. still on the table as an option for the New York Jets. In fact, we can go even further to say that both sides would still like to see this done. Financials still in the way of actually finalizing this thing, but I still think that Odell Beckham Jr. will wind up with the New York Jets.”
According to another report, Rodgers and Beckham have discussed teaming up on the Jets. As many fans likely remember, Beckham was included on Rodgers’ wish list of free agents for New York to target.
With the way the offseason is unfolding, the Jets may be virtually unrecognizable in the upcoming campaign. It certainly seems like they’re going to be one of the NFL’s biggest stories heading into the 2023 season.
Beckham, who hasn’t played since the 2021 season, would be a major addition for New York. The 30-year-old has built an impressive resume over the years, which includes three Pro Bowl nods and a Super Bowl ring.
He has also registered five seasons with at least 1,000 receiving yards. While he hasn’t checked that box since the 2019 campaign, he was still productive during his more recent seasons, and there’s a chance that a new system could give him brand-new life in the NFL.
The Jets are in the midst of a painful postseason drought, as they haven’t made the playoffs since the 2010 season. On top of that, they haven’t been to a Super Bowl since the 1960s, when they claimed their first (and only) Super Bowl championship in the 1968 campaign.
The organization is clearly ready for that to change. New York’s offseason approach so far has left no doubt that it’s looking to turn a corner.
If Rodgers and Beckham are teammates in the 2023 season, they’ll have a chance to form an electric duo. Time will tell if it comes to fruition.
