Report: Odell Beckham Jr. is thought to be seeking 1-year deal worth $15 million

Free agent Odell Beckham Jr. remains without a team, but it seems the New York Jets are considered his most likely destination.

However, if the struggling franchise wants his services, it might have to shell out a considerable amount of money because he is reportedly thought to be seeking a one-year contract worth $15 million.

“Jets officials weren’t shy about expressing their interest in free agent Odell Beckham Jr., who generated a lot of publicity by milling around the hotel grounds with his agent,” Rich Cimini of ESPN wrote. “Beckham is thought to be seeking a one-year deal for $15 million, which is pricey for a 30-year-old receiver coming off his second ACL surgery. A deal in the $10 million to $12 million range seems more likely, with a chance to earn more with incentives. The Jets are said to be the front-runners.”

The fact that Beckham has had to endure significant injuries in past seasons might be a roadblock to his apparent wish of securing a massive contract. According to some executives, an incentive-laden deal would probably be a fair option for the veteran.

Even if there are uncertainties about how much he is worth, there is no doubt about his talents.

In his first three seasons in the league as a member of the New York Giants, Beckham made the Pro Bowl each year and earned two second-team All-Pro selections. Things went awry in his fourth season after he sustained an ankle injury in the 2017 preseason and then suffered a fractured left ankle in Week 5 of that campaign. Beckham was forced to sit out the remainder of the season.

Since then, the wideout has only been able to suit up for every game in a season once. He did it in the 2019 campaign during his first year with the Cleveland Browns.

Unfortunately, he has torn his ACL twice — first in 2020 and again in the 2021 season — which caused him to miss the entirety of the 2022 campaign. Beckham reportedly visited some teams near the end of last season, although he ultimately opted to not sign with any of them.

If the Louisiana State University product ends up in New York again, he could miss out on the opportunity to secure a second Super Bowl because the Jets have missed the past 12 postseasons.

However, the team has been linked to legendary quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who has expressed a desire to play for the franchise. If the Jets are able to successfully complete a deal for Rodgers, then there would be more incentive for Beckham to join the franchise.
