Former Philadelphia Eagles star Jason Kelce was heckled by a fan before a college football game this past weekend.
The fan got under Kelce’s skin when he used a homophobic slur to describe Kelce’s brother Travis. Jason Kelce responded by slamming the fan’s phone to the ground and later throwing the slur back at the individual.
The interaction between Jason Kelce and the fan was recorded and made waves on social media.
Now, Jason Kelce says he regrets stooping to the fan’s level and using the slur against him.
“I’m not happy about the situation,” he said. “Me reacting gave him the time of day, and it also gave this situation notoriety. That’s what I regret, alright? It didn’t deserve attention. It’s really stupid, and if I just keep walkin’, it’s a f——, it’s a nothingburger, (and) nobody sees it.
“Now, it’s out there, and it just perpetuates more hate. The thing that I regret the most is sayin’ that word, to be honest with you. The word he used, it’s just f—— ridiculous, and it takes it to another level. It’s just off the wall, f—— over the line. And it’s dehumanizing, and it got under my skin. And it elicited a reaction.
“And in the heat of the moment, I thought in my head, ‘Hey, what can I say back to him? I’m gonna throw that s— right back in his face ’cause f— him.’ I know now that…I shouldn’t have done that because now there’s a video out there with me sayin’ that word, him sayin’ that word, and it’s not good for anybody.”
The oldest of the two Kelce brothers — Jason Kelce — is no longer playing in the NFL. He retired following the 2023 campaign.
Jason Kelce spent the entirety of his time in the NFL with Philadelphia and earned seven Pro Bowl selections during that span. He also earned six All-Pro nods and won a Super Bowl.
Travis Kelce is probably the more recognizable one of the two brothers, and it’s easy to see why. His relationship with pop star Taylor Swift is just part of the reason.
The 35-year-old has been one of the top tight ends in the NFL for the past decade and has a legitimate case for being one of the best players at his position in the history of the NFL. He is amid his 12th year in the league and has totaled 1,000-plus receiving yards in seven different seasons.
Travis Kelce could realistically reach quadruple digits in receiving yards once again in the 2024 regular season, if he can finish the campaign off strong. Through eight games played so far, he has accumulated 435 receiving yards.
The Kansas City Chiefs and Travis Kelce look primed to challenge for their third Super Bowl title in a row this season. Kansas City owns the NFL’s top record at 8-0, and the team won its most recent game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Nov. 4.
