Sammy Toa-Schuster, the mother of Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, revealed that she received death threats because of her son’s pregame routine of dancing on the logos of his opponents.
The younger Smith-Schuster recently decided that he will no longer dance on an opponent’s logo before the Steelers play.
The dancing started as a harmless social media stunt, but it clearly was viewed by some as disrespectful. Regardless, there is never an excuse for this kind of vitriol towards the family members of star athletes.
The Steelers got out to an 11-0 start this season, but dropped three in a row. After the three straight losses, the younger Smith-Schuster ended the pregame ritual.
Pittsburgh defeated the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, 28-24, to improve to 12-3 on the season.
The younger Smith-Schuster finished the game with nine catches for a team-high 96 receiving yards and a touchdown.
The Steelers will finish the regular season next Sunday against the Cleveland Browns.
