The San Francisco 49ers have reportedly come to a decision on which player they’ll draft with the third overall pick in this year’s NFL draft, which gets underway on Thursday night.

Jeremy Fowler indicated on ESPN’s “SportsCenter” that the choice will be among three of the top quarterbacks who will likely still be available when the 49ers make their selection.

“I’m told the work is done in Santa Clara,” Fowler said. “They have wrapped up their draft meetings officially. They’re ready to make this pick, but it’s in the hands of Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch. They’re probably not telling anybody. Nobody in that building knows and doesn’t expect to know until Thursday. But the coaches broke down Mac Jones, Justin Fields and Trey Lance this week together in a neutral process. I’m told they’ve kept an open mind with Justin Fields and Trey Lance winning them over. They had a good process, but there’s still a decent amount of buzz league-wide about Mac Jones.”

The 49ers traded up to the third overall pick after making a trade last month with the Miami Dolphins, allowing them to move up nine slots from their original 12th spot in the draft.

Last season, the 49ers went through an injury-plagued campaign that resulted in the team going from a Super Bowl runner-up with a 13-3 record to a squad that finished out of the postseason with a 6-10 mark.

The Jacksonville Jaguars and New York Jets have the top two choices in the draft, with the Jaguars and Jets expected to take signal-callers Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson, respectively, to get things started.
