The Seattle Seahawks reportedly are elevating running back Adrian Peterson from their practice squad for their Week 13 game against the San Francisco 49ers.
Peterson, 36, signed with Seattle after he was released by the Tennessee Titans earlier this season.
The Seahawks’ playoff hopes are on life support, as the team is currently 3-8 on the year and has lost three consecutive games since Russell Wilson returned to the lineup.
Seattle is hoping that Peterson will rejuvenate a backfield that lost running back Chris Carson for the season due to a neck injury.
Peterson spent three games, making two starts, with the Titans this season. Tennessee brought the veteran into the fold after Derrick Henry was injured earlier in the 2021 campaign.
Through Peterson’s three games with the Titans, he rushed for 82 yards and one touchdown on 27 carries. He also caught four passes for eight yards.
Prior to signing with the Titans this season, Peterson had last played in the NFL for the Detroit Lions in the 2020 season. He appeared in 16 games for the Lions and ran for 604 yards and seven touchdowns.
Peterson is one of the greatest running backs in NFL history, as he won the league’s MVP award in 2012. For his career, Peterson has accumulated 14,902 rushing yards on 3,219 carries. He has scored a combined 125 rushing and receiving touchdowns in his NFL career.
The Seahawks and 49ers are facing off for the second time this season in Week 13. Seattle won the first meeting between these two teams on Oct. 3.
The Seahawks and 49ers are scheduled to kick off at 4:25 p.m. EST on Sunday afternoon.
