Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown is once again making headlines for his comments on a WNBA player, this time talking about Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese.
“Angel Reese a baddie,” Brown said. “Shout-out to Angel Reese. When she start making 100 mills, you gon’ fly me out, baby?”
Brown last played in the NFL in the 2021 season for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He has been active and unfiltered on social media in his post-playing career, including when it comes to Reese.
He took to social media to reference a viral meme when referring to the Sky star.
It’s unfortunate that Brown isn’t really appreciating Reese as an athlete and what she’s done for women’s basketball. Instead, the controversial NFL star is simply sexualizing the Sky rookie, which has unfortunately become a pattern for him.
This WNBA season, Brown has also made comments attacking Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark and Phoenix Mercury center Brittney Griner.
During his NFL career, Brown was a Super Bowl champion and seven-time Pro Bowler, but his time in the league ended in unceremonious fashion. He was released by the Las Vegas Raiders before he played in a single game with them and then bounced around with the New England Patriots (one game in the 2019 season) and the Buccaneers to close out his career.
His final game with the Buccaneers ended with him running off the field shirtless while the game was still going on.
Brown’s actions ended up hurting his chances to display his impressive talent on the football field.
Brown may not be talking about Reese for the right reasons – like her strong play this season – but that hopefully won’t stop the Sky rookie from continuing to dominate.
Reese is averaging 13.2 points, 11.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game while shooting 40.6 percent from the field this season. The No. 7 overall pick in the 2024 draft, Reese is coming off arguably her best game of the season against the Fever on Sunday.
In that matchup, she scored 25 points (a season- and career-high) on 8-of-12 shooting and grabbed 16 rebounds. Chicago went on to win that game by one point.
Hopefully, Reese can continue to grow women’s basketball and prove she is one of the best young players in the game today.
