News of folks throwing sex toys at WNBA games has been a hot topic on social media in recent days.
One person threw a dildo at a Phoenix Mercury game on Aug. 5. The Mercury beat the Connecticut Sun by 16 points on the day in question and by a score of 82-66.
There has since been an update offered on alleged incident. Police arrested an 18-year-old male named Kaden Lopez after he allegedly threw a dildo at a man and his niece at the Mercury game.
According to police, the incident was captured on video. The tape allegedly shows Lopez throwing a green dildo forward. After Lopez throws the dildo, he can be seen getting out of his seat and leaving the area.
Allegedly, a witness โ someone who volunteers at PHX Arena โ sprang to action as Lopez tried to flee the scene. He tackled Lopez and waited for police to show up.
Lopez expressed remorse for throwing the dildo and chalked up his decision to throw it to taking part in a prank that was trending on social media. According to a court document, he purchased the sex toy not long before the game between the Mercury and Sun took place, as he bought it the day prior.
The teenager was booked into jail on assault, public display of explicit sexual material and suspicion of disorderly conduct. Both the WNBA and PHX Arena want him to be prosecuted for disorderly conduct.
Since it seems that Lopez is indeed the person responsible for throwing a green dildo, he will likely face harsh consequences for his actions sooner rather than later.
Meanwhile, the Mercury are trying to put that whole occurrence in the rearview mirror and pick up their third win in a row when they take on the Indiana Fever on Thursday night. The Fever won’t have arguably their best player for that contest, however, as guard Caitlin Clark will sit out with a right groin injury. Thursday’s game will mark the ninth contest in a row she has sat out for thanks to the injury.
