Steve Nash Admits He Got to ‘Skip the Line’ for Brooklyn Nets Coaching Job

The Brooklyn Nets shocked the NBA world when they hired Hall of Fame point guard Steve Nash to be their next head coach.

While some around the league praised the hire, others have criticized the Nash hiring due to his lack of coaching experience.

Nash addressed the fact that he got the job for the Nets with much lesser coaching credentials than other qualified candidates.

“Well, I did skip the line, frankly,” Nash said during his virtual introductory news conference from the team’s practice facility Wednesday afternoon. “But at the same time, I think leading an NBA team for almost two decades is pretty unique. So while I haven’t necessarily learned some of the skills that I’ll definitely seek to understand and learn as far as the technical aspects of coaching, I was never far from that.”

Nash played for 18 seasons in the NBA, making eight All-Star teams and winning two MVP awards.

He will now have the luxury of stepping in to coach a team that will feature superstars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.

The Nets are hoping to make a leap in the Eastern Conference after Durant missed the entire 2019-20 NBA season due to an Achilles injury.

Brooklyn was eliminated in the first round of the NBA playoffs this season by the Toronto Raptors.

Only time will tell if Nash can be the leader that Brooklyn needs to win a championship.
