The sports world lost a prominent figure on Sunday, as Bill Russell passed away at 88 years old.

The Boston Celtics legend is known as one of the most prolific winners the league has ever seen. He won 11 NBA titles during his storied career.

Russell is also known as one of the best big men to ever play basketball. He posted career averages of 15.1 points and 22.5 rebounds per game. Unfortunately, steals and blocks were not recorded during his playing days.

Aside from his on-the-court performance, Russell was also a civil rights leader. He had to endure racism for much of his playing career.

People around the league will surely miss the five-time MVP.
