Eastern Conference exec says Celtics’ addition of Malcolm Brogdon ‘pisses me off’

The Boston Celtics made a huge splash this offseason when they acquired guard Malcolm Brogdon from the Indiana Pacers.

Brogdon is surely going to help out a Celtics team that made it to the NBA Finals last season and lost to the Golden State Warriors in six hard-fought games.

One Eastern Conference executive recently made it clear that he isn’t happy the Celtics were able to acquire Brogdon.

“He will,” the executive told Heavy.com’s Steve Bulpett when asked whether Brogdon will seriously help the Celtics. “He’ll be good for them. Going to Boston, with strong people around him, unfortunately, yes, he’ll be good for them. I think he’s going to make them a lot better — which pisses me off.”

Last season, the University of Virginia product averaged 19.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 5.9 assists per game while knocking down 44.8 percent of his shots from the field and 31.2 percent of his shots from beyond the arc.

While Brogdon has been a starter for most of his career, the Celtics apparently plan to have him come off the bench this coming season.

The former Rookie of the Year has dealt with injuries over the past couple of seasons, so he will need to stay healthy if he wants to make a consistent impact for the Celtics.

The 29-year-old is currently set to become an unrestricted free agent in the 2025 offseason, so Boston has him locked up for the foreseeable future. It likely took that into account when it decided to trade for him.

Although forward Grant Williams believes the Celtics were better than the Warriors last season, the Celtics looked a bit outmatched at times during the series. It seemed as if they only needed one more piece to get over the hump.

Brogdon might just be that missing piece.
