New Orleans Pelicans big man Jaxson Hayes has been hit with a handful of misdemeanor charges in Los Angeles, all of which stem from an incident that occurred in July of 2021.

“Pelicans center Jaxson Hayes has been hit with 12 misdemeanor charges in Los Angeles — including domestic violence and using violence against a police officer — all stemming from an incident involving Jaxson, his GF, and police,” TMZ reported.

“TMZ Sports has learned 21-year-old Hayes was charged by the city attorney in L.A. County … 6 months after he tussled with police.

“Hayes has been charged with 12 counts … including inflicting corporal injury (domestic violence charge), destroying property, use of force, resisting a police officer, using force and violence against an LAPD member, amongst other charges.”

In July of 2021, police officers responded to a domestic dispute between Hayes and his girlfriend, who was worried for her safety. When police arrived, a struggle ensued, and Hayes apparently shoved an officer into a wall. He was eventually taken into custody.

These 12 charges are a result of that July incident.

It certainly seems like Hayes’ NBA career is up in the air. If convicted, he could end up spending time in jail.

Hayes was originally selected in the first round of the 2019 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks. He is currently in his third season in the league, and he has played his entire career with the Pelicans.

For his career, he is averaging 7.3 points and 4.0 rebounds per game while shooting 63.4 percent from the field. He doesn’t shoot 3-pointers very often, but when he does, they fall at a 36.4 percent clip.

This season, he has appeared in 33 games for the Pelicans. He is averaging 6.8 points and 3.4 rebounds per contest while shooting 58.3 percent from the field. Only time will tell what his future holds in the NBA.

As for the Pelicans, they are 17-28 on the season. The organization would miss the playoffs if the season ended today.
