Rapper Master P, whose legal name is Percy Miller, said recently that he would be interested in filling the New Orleans Pelicans’ head coaching vacancy.
“I played in the NBA,” Miller said in an interview with TMZ. “I done coached a lot of great players that are in the league. I done took my sons from being high school athletes to maybe they’ll be the next future big-time pro athletes. … If they bring me in as a head coach or assistant coach, I think I can change the game!”
While it seems unlikely that the rapper will receive any sort of serious consideration for the job, it would be highly entertaining to see him on the sidelines for an NBA team.
Miller spent time with two NBA teams as a player in the 1990s, but he never appeared in a game. Those teams were the Charlotte Hornets and Toronto Raptors.
The Pelicans’ coaching search is a very interesting one.
It was reported recently that young star Zion Williamson and his camp are pushing hard for the organization to hire Teresa Weatherspoon as the next coach. Whether or not the team meets Williamson’s demands could impact their future together.
New Orleans has an exciting foundation for its future in place, but the team has failed to make the playoffs in each of the past three seasons.
