The Portland Trail Blazers are interested in bolstering their roster ahead of the 2021 playoffs.
Although the franchise will consider a number of potential solid buyout candidates, it will not weigh the option of adding former All-Star DeMarcus Cousins.
“Some players who have been rumored to be potential buyout candidates are point guard George Hill, wing Tony Snell, sharpshooter Wayne Ellington and wing Otto Porter Jr., who is a player long desired by [Neil] Olshey,” wrote Jason Quick of The Athletic. “Big man DeMarcus Cousins was waived last month by Houston, but a source said the Blazers will not consider him.”
Cousins’ best days appear to be behind him.
The veteran posted a career-low 9.6 points and 7.6 rebonds per game with the Rockets this season. He has missed a huge number of games over the last few years due to various major injuries.
As for the Trail Blazers, they’re trying to bank on the primes of stars Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum. The Blazers got bounced by the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of the 2020 postseason.
The Pistons are reportedly getting a bunch of trade interest for Ellington. In addition, the Blazers may have competition from the Golden State Warriors for the services of Porter.
The Blazers hold a 21-14 record this season.
