Stanley Johnson and Stephen A. Smith hint they’d go to jail for what they’d do to Kevin Porter Jr. if he assaulted their daughters

Houston Rockets guard Kevin Porter Jr. has been arrested and charged with assault and strangulation of his girlfriend, former WNBA player Kysre Gondrezick. Stephen A. Smith insinuated that he would be in jail for what he would do to Porter if it were his daughter that he assaulted.

Recent Los Angeles Lakers forward Stanley Johnson backed up Smith’s comments.

“Law enforcement’s gon’ be necessary for anybody that puts their hands on my daughter,” Smith said. “I promise you that. Yes, I will do you harm. Anybody, anybody — any man that puts his hands on my daughter, it’s gon’ be a problem.”

Johnson, 27, was selected with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft after one season playing college basketball at the University of Arizona. He averaged 13.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.5 steals per game across 38 games played with the Wildcats (37 starts).

Those numbers were good enough for Johnson to earn the Pac-12 Rookie of the Year award as well as all-conference honors.

Johnson’s contributions as a freshman translated to a whole lot of wins for the Wildcats. They finished the 2014-15 season with an excellent 34-4 record and made it all the way to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament before losing to the University of Wisconsin by a final score of 85-78. Johnson had himself a forgettable performance in the loss, as he scored just six points and converted two of his four field-goal attempts.

The 6-foot-7 forward has played for five teams — the Detroit Pistons, Toronto Raptors, Lakers, San Antonio Spurs and New Orleans Pelicans — across his eight seasons in the NBA. He averaged 5.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 0.5 steals per game in 30 appearances with the Spurs during the 2022-23 regular season (zero starts).

Johnson spent one season as a member of the storied Lakers franchise, the 2021-22 season. He averaged 6.7 points, 3.2 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 0.9 steals per game in 48 regular-season games played with Los Angeles (27 starts). Johnson also shot the ball with solid accuracy from the field as a Laker, as he converted 46.6 percent of his field-goal attempts.

The 27-year-old may not be on an NBA roster at the moment, but he is certainly talented enough to play in the league. He played solid basketball on both ends of the floor during his time playing for the Lakers in the 2021-22 regular season.
