NFC East executive reacts to Micah Parsons trade request: ‘I love this’

Defensive end Micah Parsons’ time playing for the Dallas Cowboys may very well be over after he spent his first four NFL seasons with the team. Parsons announced on Friday that he has requested to be traded elsewhere.

The Cowboys play in the NFC East division along with the Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Commanders and New York Giants, and one unnamed executive who works for a team in the division seemingly has taken pleasure in Parsons’ trade request.

Parsons’ potential departure from Dallas could shift the balance of power in the NFC East. The Cowboys have been consistent playoff threats in recent years, but they’re now in danger of losing a key defensive player, and Dallas already had plenty of room for improvement on that side of the ball even before the Parsons situation got to this point.

The Cowboys reportedly thought that Parsons had already agreed to a contract extension with the team back in the spring. He spoke to team owner Jerry Jones around that time, and Dallas was under the impression that those talks were contract negotiations.

Parsons saw those conversations differently and wanted his agent to negotiate his deal. The Cowboys refused to hear out his agent, however.

The 26-year-old is looking for a payday. Parsons is slated to get paid just over $24 million in the coming 2025 season, but his rookie contract is set to expire after that. He could receive quite a lucrative contract offer in due time, even if it doesn’t look like it will be from the Cowboys.

Not only is Parsons a spring chicken at 26 years old, but he’s already proven to be one of the elite defensive players in the NFL. He has four Pro Bowl appearances in as many NFL seasons and has even finished in the top 10 in the MVP voting before.

In the 2022 campaign, he ended up with the eighth-most votes for the prized award. He has also come close to winning Defensive Player of the Year honors during his NFL career. His departure would mark a major loss for the Cowboys.
