Dallas Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki had some high praise for guard Luka Doncic ahead of the Mavericks’ Game 7 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers.

Nowitzki, who is probably the greatest Maverick of all time, claimed that Doncic has already surpassed him when asked by a TMZ reporter what Doncic would have to do to pass him as the greatest Maverick ever.

“He already has,” Nowitzki said, to which the reporter disagreed. “He’s playing unbelievable.”

That’s some amazing praise from Nowitzki, who led the Mavs to a title in 2011 over the Miami Heat.

This postseason, Doncic averaged 35.7 points, 7.9 rebounds and 10.3 assists per game while shooting 49.0 percent from the field and 40.8 percent from 3-point range.

He dropped 46 points and 14 assists in Game 7, but it wasn’t enough for the Mavericks to win the game and the series.

While Nowitzki already thinks Doncic has surpassed him, Mavericks fans may want Doncic to win a title, or at least a playoff series, before crowning him as the team’s greatest player.
