Star defensive end Micah Parsons is still a member of the Dallas Cowboys organization, but his future with the team is in question in light of his announcement on Friday that he has asked to be traded.

With one of the Cowboys’ top defensive players in recent years unhappy with the franchise, team owner Jerry Jones spoke to the media regarding the trade request. Jones indicated that he views Parsons’ request as part of the negotiation process and told Cowboys fans not to worry about the current quagmire between the two sides.

Jones’ comments come not long after a report surfaced indicating that Parsons spoke to Jones earlier this year in what the Cowboys thought were contract negotiations. Parsons saw those talks differently and wanted his agent to negotiate his contract, and the Cowboys โ€” who thought Parsons had already agreed to a deal โ€” seemingly wanted nothing to do with his agent.

The recent comments from the owner of the Cowboys franchise should give fans of the team some hope, as they hint that there could be a scenario where Parsons and Dallas make amends and work out an extension.

The incentive for the Cowboys to ink Parsons to a long-term deal is evident, as he’s gotten off to an incredible start to his NFL career. He’s been a premier defensive player ever since he stepped foot on an NFL field, as evidenced by all the Pro Bowl and All-Pro selections he has already racked up.

The thought that he still might have another level to reach as a player should strike fear into the rest of the league as well.

It should be interesting to find out how the situation between the Cowboys and Parsons evolves in light of what Jones had to say about the whole debacle. Hopefully for Dallas, even after Parsons amplified his trade request in a very public fashion, he will soon change course and agree to sign a lucrative extension to stick around with the Cowboys for the long haul.
