Five years ago, All-Star forward Kevin Durant announced that he’d be leaving the Oklahoma City Thunder to join the Golden State Warriors.

When one popular sports Twitter account posted about the anniversary, Durant responded with a hilarious quip.

His decision to form a superteam with Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green on the Warriors was received negatively by many fans and pundits. However, his choice paid dividends as the 2014 NBA MVP won two titles with the Warriors.

Golden State had an opportunity to claim an elusive three-peat when it reached the 2019 NBA Finals. Unfortunately, injuries to Durant and Thompson sank its chances of defeating the Toronto Raptors in the series.

The Warriors eventually lost the title series in six games.

Following that season, Durant ended his time with the Warriors by signing with the Brooklyn Nets. Though the Nets have built a superteam around Durant, they failed to win a title this season.
