The struggling Boston Celtics could use a trade to enhance their roster.

However, it appears the franchise won’t make a trade unless it believes it can bury the team it is trying to strike a deal with.

“They’ll only do something,” a West executive told Tim Bontemps of ESPN, “if they think they’re going to bury you.”

The Celtics reached the 2020 Eastern Conference Finals.

They currently hold a 17-17 record this season. Other contenders, like the Philadelphia 76ers, Brooklyn Nets and Milwaukee Bucks, are well ahead of the Celtics in the standings.

Even Celtics general manager Danny Ainge doesn’t believe his own team is a contender this year. As a result, the organization could make move before the trade deadline.

It’s reportedly looking to acquire a forward to fill the void left by star Gordon Hayward. However, teams seem to be aware of Ainge’s infamous tactics.

The Celtics face the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday evening.
