Star linebacker Micah Parsons’ stint as a member of the Dallas Cowboys recently came to an end after he was with the team for the first four seasons of his NFL career. Late last month, the Cowboys cut ties with the four-time Pro Bowler and traded him to the Green Bay Packers in exchange for first-round picks in 2026 and 2027 as well as defensive tackle Kenny Clark.

Just days after the trade became public knowledge, Parsons’ agent David Mulugheta revealed that his client wanted to remain in Dallas with the Cowboys, and he even would have suited up in the team’s looming Week 1 contest against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sept. 4.

“I think the most important thing is Micah wanted to be a Cowboy,” Mulugheta said. “He grew up cheering for the Cowboys, wore the blue and white at Penn State, wore it in the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys. He wanted to be a Cowboy, and we did everything we could for him to remain a Cowboy.”

The sports world issued a number of reactions on social media to the Cowboys’ decision to trade Parsons and the fact that Dallas sports fans have had a rough 2025. Along with Parsons getting shipped to Green Bay, the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks moved star guard Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in February in a trade that was universally criticized from the Mavericks’ perspective.

Parsons got off to a spectacular start to his pro career in Dallas after he was selected with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. He earned the NFL AP Defensive Rookie of the Year award in the 2021 campaign and was named an All-Pro in each of his opening two seasons.

While it’s true that Parsons is on the heels of probably his least productive NFL season, injuries played a part in his underwhelming campaign, as he was limited to 13 games in the 2024 season. However, he still managed to be a very impactful defensive player, considering he racked up 12 sacks in total in his fourth season.

Whether or not Parsons will be able to rebound from his underwhelming 2024 season in the 2025 campaign โ€” his maiden season as a Packer โ€” should be a fascinating storyline to follow once Green Bay’s 17-game slate begins later this month. Green Bay is set to open its season with a matchup against the Detroit Lions on Sept. 7. Detroit is fresh off winning 15 games in the 2024 season.
