The New Orleans Saints activated Jordyn Tyson from injured reserve Saturday, moving the rookie receiver closer to his NFL debut against the Cleveland Browns after a hamstring injury kept him out of the first seven games.
Tyson was one of two offensive players New Orleans brought back to its active roster, along with left tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. The Saints also waived running back Kendre Miller and tight end Treyton Welch.
The move clears a roster obstacle for Tyson, but his game status still warrants attention. He was listed as questionable Friday after three limited practices, and he retained that designation following his activation.

New Orleans has not announced a specific snap count for him in the updates reviewed. An active-roster spot gives Tyson a chance to play Sunday; it does not establish how much work he will receive.
The Saints selected Tyson eighth overall in April. His college production included 158 receptions for 2,282 yards and 22 touchdowns across his time at Colorado and Arizona State, but New Orleans has had to wait to see that investment contribute in a regular-season game.
Tyler Shough cautions that chemistry with Jordyn Tyson will take time
Tyson’s absence has affected more than his opportunity to make catches. It has also limited his time working with quarterback Tyler Shough.
The receiver injured his hamstring during an Aug. 13 joint practice with Jacksonville and went on injured reserve Aug. 30. Wednesday marked his return to team practice and the opening of his return window.
Shough praised Tyson’s versatility during Wednesday’s media availability, while acknowledging that their limited repetitions leave work to do.
“My main focus is to kind of get him back up to speed, and he’s doing a phenomenal job up to this point rehabbing and he’s going to continue to rehab, do his thing,” Shough said. “Getting him up to speed with the playbook, getting chemistry with him, it’s going to take time.”
Tyson remained involved in meetings during his recovery, but Shough’s comments offer a reason to temper expectations for an immediate full workload. The pair still needs the on-field experience that the injury interrupted.
Tyson would join a receiving group led by Chris Olave, who has 49 catches for 636 yards this season. Devaughn Vele and tight end Juwan Johnson are also part of the passing attack.
Kelvin Banks’ activation gives Saints another offensive option
Banks’ return could help Shough in a different way. The left tackle has been recovering from an ankle injury that required surgery, and he also returned to practice this week.
Like Tyson, Banks was limited Wednesday through Friday and received a questionable designation. Asim Richards, another tackle on the injury report, was questionable with a thumb injury, making the available options up front worth monitoring before kickoff.
New Orleans is returning from its bye at 2-5, with Cleveland visiting the Caesars Superdome on Sunday at 1 p.m. EST. The Saints’ next two games are at home, with a divisional matchup against Carolina following the Browns game.
For Tyson, the immediate opportunity is more basic: Dress for his first NFL regular-season game and begin establishing his role alongside Shough and Olave. Saturday’s activation puts that possibility within reach, with his final availability still to be settled.
