The Atlanta Hawks were dealt a serious blow on Sunday with news that shooting guard Bogdan Bogdanovic’s injury has been diagnosed as a fractured right knee.

The 28-year-old Bogdanovic left Saturday night’s game against the Charlotte Hornets after landing awkwardly on his right knee during the second quarter. The potentially serious nature of the injury was evident by the fact that he had to be helped back to the Hawks’ locker room.

The Hawks had been making a serious effort for a playoff bid this season, signing Bogdanovic during the November free-agency period.

At present, it’s uncertain exactly when Bogdanovic will be able to return to the court, though his absence from the team will put a severe crimp in that playoff bid.

The 4-5 Hawks will attempt to pick up the pieces when they host the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday night.
