Jason Williams on Michael Jordan in today’s NBA: ‘He’d be great, be an All-Star for sure, but not the Michael Jordan that he was back then’

Former NBA guard Jason Williams recently offered an interesting take on how Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan would fare in today’s NBA.

Williams explained that Jordan wouldn’t really be the exact same player he was during his career, as defenses in the NBA have changed drastically since Jordan’s playing days.

“Obviously, he’s going to be great,” Williams said. “I mean, don’t get me wrong. But I think it would be a little harder for him now because like you said the defenses have changed, and now he’s going to have three guys on the same side of the floor when he has the ball on the wing, whereas back in the day you just had one guy.

“Anybody in the NBA is going to beat anybody one on one, let alone Michael Jordan. I think he’d be great, be an All-Star for sure, but not the Michael Jordan that he was back then if that’s fair to say.”

While Williams thinks things may have been tougher for the Bulls legend, he still thinks Jordan would have been a top player in the league if he played today.

There’s no doubt that Jordan has as impressive a resume as any player in NBA history, as he is a 14-time All-Star and five-time MVP. Jordan, a Hall of Famer, also won 10 scoring titles, six NBA titles and was named NBA Finals MVP six times.

For his career, Jordan averaged 30.1 points, 6.2 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game while shooting 49.7 percent from the field.

Defense has changed in the NBA in recent years, but there’s no denying Jordan’s ability to score the basketball at such a high level. While Williams and others can speculate about how the Bulls legend would fare today, Jordan’s body of work during his NBA career shows that he would have been hard to stop in any era.
